Clothing insecurity is a hidden crisis for children nationwide. More than 20 million American children are at risk of being clothing insecure. Not having appropriate clothing harms a child’s health, safety, and self-esteem, factors known to impact their academic performance and long-term success.

Because One Matters believes all children should have what they need at home, school, and play. Our Wrapped in Love closet provides foster, adoptive, kinship, and families in need the opportunity to shop for new or like-new clothing items, toys, and books, all free of charge.

In addition, we provide kids entering foster care with a duffle bag filled with essential items to increase comfort and security during their earliest days of placement. Children entering the foster care system often leave home without the things they value, like their favorite teddy bear, blanket, and other personal items. Children are placed into care while at school and do not have the opportunity to return home prior to being placed into care. In other cases, children are placed into the care at twilight evening hours and are rushed to pack limited contents into garbage bags before heading to foster care. It is our hope that our duffel bags helps to make the transition a little easier for not only the child but the foster parent.
